Lincoln College invites applications from graduates, either men or
women,
for a Stipendiary Lecturership in Philosophy and Political Theory,
tenable
for one year from 1st October 2002 to 30th September 2003. The
successful
candidate will be expected to teach up to twelve hours per week. The
salary
offered is currently £16,595 p.a. Certain Common Room rights and
allowances
are also offered.
The College is particularly concerned to provide the teaching of
Ethics,
Mill’s Utilitarianism, Theory of Politics and Introduction to
Political
Theory. The ability to teach one or more further subjects in
Philosophy
and/or Politics would be an advantage. As part of the ordinary duties
of
the post, the lecturer will assist generally in the organisation of
teaching, supervision of students including setting and marking
collections
and will assist with the Admissions process in Michaelmas Term.

FURTHER PARTICULARS
Lincoln College invites applications from graduates, either men or
women,
for a Stipendiary Lecturership in Philosophy and Political Theory,
tenable
for one year from 1st October 2002 to 30th September 2003. The
successful
candidate will be expected to teach up to twelve hours per week.
Philosophy forms part of two joint schools for which Lincoln admits
students: Philosophy and Modern Languages; Philosophy, Politics and
Economics (PPE). The majority of undergraduates studying Philosophy
at
Lincoln are reading PPE.
The Lecturer will be required to teach Ethics, Mill’s Utilitarianism,
Theory
of Politics and the Political Theory section of the Politics
Preliminary
syllabus. The ability to teach one or more further subjects would be
an
advantage.
The Lecturer will be required as part of the ordinary duties of the
post to
provide tutorial teaching, to assist generally in the organisation of
teaching and the pastoral supervision of undergraduates (including
setting
and marking Collections) and to assist with the Admissions process in
Michaelmas term.
There is no age limit for applicants. The salary offered is currently
£16,595 p.a. plus a book allowance, currently £326 and a hospitality
credit
currently, £177. Common Room Rights are offered which include nine
meals a
week (excluding Domus, Guest and Chapter Days) in which no more than
five
meals may be lunch, with the right to bring a guest at the lecturer’s
own
expense, from two weeks before the start of Full Term to Tenth Week
inclusive.
The contract of employment will contain a clause whereby he or she
agrees to
renounce any eligibility for payment under the terms of the Redundancy
Payments Act of 1965 and to forgo any rights to complain of unfair
dismissal
under the terms of the trades Union and Labour Relations Act 1974 (or
any
subsequent amending legislation relating thereto) upon the expiry or
termination of the appointment.
The appointment will be subject to the receipt of a satisfactory
medical
questionnaire and, if necessary, a subsequent medical examination by
the
College Doctor.
