Not in conflict, they do different things.

The daemon option is the number of seconds between runs.  The interval
option (usually set on a per-server basis) is the number of runs
between polls.

In my case I've got the daemon set at 120 seconds between runs and
some servers set to poll interval 2, some to 3, some to 720
(effectively one day) and some even higher :)
