My name is John Hamilton. I am a relatively new CCIL user and volunteer. I
first learned of CCIL in September or October of last year and since then have
been able to participate in the efforts at OIC and two of the rebuild "parties"
that have been held in that time, inculding one held at the WC Community Center
where part of the goal was to work with young people at the Community Center
where they could learn a bit about computer repair and a bit about Linux.

In the short time that I have been a part of the CCIL community, I have had the
pleasure of meeting people that are sincerely interested in the CCIL mission
of "easy and equitable electronic access to information" and are willing to
donate tremendous amounts of time toward that end. As noted by Jackie Patti and
Kathy Miles, I also realize that now is a time where other community members
need to step forward to help in certain areas of need, including Accounting
(CCIL needs a treasurer), volunteers potentially interested in board positions
or assisting the board and in other areas noted by Jackie and Kathy. A
volunteer organization can only be a strong as its volunteer community; while
all volunteer organizations have a core group that typically perform many of
the duties, the CCIL mission (http://www.ccil.org/info/mission.php) and the
CCIL vision (http://www.ccil.org/info/vision.php) require the efforts of more
than just a few.

Now is the time for our community members to get involved in keeping CCIL
successful, and the best way to start that process is through communication. I
agree that in today's electronic age, a communication forum like this one is
very effective for collecting the thoughts of a potentially large group of
individuals, but I also think that a meeting is also a very good idea because
the real-time interaction that is possible in that type of forum is also very
valuable, as long as everyone agrees to "play by the rules" and give all
parties an "easy and equitable" oppurtunity to share their ideas. Some type of
panel discussion would likely work well, where ideas that have been collected
from postings to this distribution list could be summarized and discussed,
giving an opportunity to those that want to contribute additional thoughts,
comments and ideas.

Thank you for the time you have taken to read this. Thank you also, in advance,
for the time you will dedicate to ensuring the continued success of CCIL!
